Materials: Acrylic paint, premium 100% cotton duck canvas, black matte frame, gesso, assorted gel mediums, hanging hardware. soft gel Gloss and Satin Varnish.
Process: It takes John many hours to produce a quality painting. The first task is to prime the canvas and make a rough sketch on the canvass. The next step is to decide what the dominant colors and tones are and to loosely paint these areas, or block them in.
He spends a considerable amount of time on the next step: working on refining the shapes and colors. Lastly, more details, tones, and highlights are added in.
Two coats of an acrylic medium to seal the painting are applied after a 24-hour period. Finally, two coats of satin varnish are added in for protection and to produce a nice soft low luster sheen.
The rich vivid colors in John’s paintings are achieved by laying down several coats of custom blended paint.
